Welcome to StefMakes! By way of brief blog-troduction I thought it customary to share a little bit about myself and how I got here. What better means to do this I thought, than by sharing my version of the seamstress tag. So, typing out loud, here goes...
1) Who are you?
I’m Stef. Self-confessed craft addict with a serious obsession for sewing. Advocate of a creative lifestyle.
2) When & why did you start sewing?
Crafting, and specifically sewing, has been a passion since I was small and unlike ballet, violin and horse riding, i've stuck at it. Inspired by my grandma, I learnt the basic skills in garment construction from her in my early teens. Everything else since then is largely self-taught.
3) What is your favourite or proudest make?
I made all five bridesmaids’ dresses for our wedding. It was a real labour of love!
4) What is your most disastrous make?
Cuddly rabbit teddy for new baby niece. Book borrowed from library. Hours of work. Complete disaster. Evidence now distroyed. I blame the pattern - of course.
5) Where is your favourite place to go fabric shopping?
Goldhawk road, London - its a full day trip! There are also a number of other fabric shops spread out across London that are absolute gems and regular haunts for me, not least Fabrics Galore in Battersea. I really struggle to buy online as I find that fabric buying is such a tactile shopping experience!
6) What is your most used pattern?
I’m a real pattern hopper so rarely revisit the same one twice, although more recently I have found some staple patterns that I love. In particular, I have lately become more than a little hooked on the Grainline Studio, Linden Sweatshirt.
7) Your most dreaded sewing task is…
Setting in sleeves! No further comments.
8) And your favourite sewing task?
Anything overlocker related.
9) What is your favourite 'sewing entertainment’?
Podcasts. Music. Period dramas.
10) Printed or PDF?
Printed. I have a real aversion to sticking pieces of paper together, plus I like to store my printed patterns like trophies. I am realistic though and if I really want a pattern that is PDF only, I will buy it!
11) What sewing machine do you use?
I have a Brother sewing machine. The current model is somewhere in between beginner and intermediate. I plan to upgrade in the not too distant future though.
12) Do you have any other hobbies?
Lots but all tend to be craft related. Non-sewing hobbies include: jewellery making, paper crafts, baking and bullet journalling. Oh, and running - but that’s more out of necessity.
About the seamstress tag:
The seamstress tag was initiated by Hollie Dolly as a way of bringing together sewing folk from all over the interweb and predominantly on You Tube.
More details, along with Hollie's own seamstress tag can be found here!
